TUNGSTEN APPLICATIONS AND PRODUCTS

Tungsten products

Multiple properties, multiple applications

Tungsten, a rare and strategic metal, is in increasing demand for a variety of industrial applications and the production of consumer goods. Tungsten can be found, for example, in cars, planes, trains, nuclear reactors and mobile phones. A pretty tungsten ring, a light bulb filament, a tennis racket: tungsten is widely used in objects we see every day.

A range of applications

Seventy per cent of all tungsten sold on the market today is used in the production of carbon-based industrial tools. The mineral’s properties make it a valued material in a range of industries, including aerospace, the military, electronics, chemicals and even sports. Applications are plentiful and diverse.
They include:
• Metal-cutting tools
• Chemical and carbide products
• Special alloys for industrial applications
• Advanced material components for aerospace
• High-end sports equipment, especially tennis rackets and skis

Tungsten in light bulbs

Another highly visible application for this mineral is in production of incandescent and halogen light bulb filaments. Because tungsten filaments are highly resistant to elevated temperatures (very high melting point), they became a sought-after commodity in the early 1900s for production of light bulbs and electrical materials.

Tungsten jewellery

Tungsten rings, pendants and wedding bands are becoming more and more popular and are recognized for their durability and easy maintenance. The material is increasingly prized by jewellers and consumers for its scratch-proof and durable polished finish.
