Safety and Sustainability Policy

Throughout the world, the environmental and social impact of mining has become an important consideration, and the same trend is observed in Peru. Governmental authorities in Peru have, during the past 15 years, enacted a series of realistic mining laws that regulate all the different stages of a mining project, starting with exploration and small scale mining up to large scale mining and mine closure plans.

Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) are required for each stage. Emphasis has also been laid upon sustainability as measured not simply by the life of a mine and its direct environmental impact but also by the promotion and implementation of other sustainable activities in the surrounding communities leading to an improved standard of living and well being.

Risk Management & Workplace Safety
Malaga has a Risk Management & Safety Officer on site at Pasto Bueno who is in charge of 4-person unit that ensures compliance with all workplace safety regulations. In the first 6 months of 2010, no serious incidents were reported either in the mine or in the plant.
