MALAGA IN THE COMMUNITY

Under the responsibility of Malaga’s Environmental Management Unit, the company organizes public audiences and a series of participatory workshops related to the mining activities at Pasto Bueno and implements its Sustainability and Social Development Program.
In 2009-2010, the following sustainability & social activities were carried out:

An irrigation canal was built to channel the water to the community’s agricultural lands in order to increase cultivated land area and yields.

6 workshops and/or public audiences were held regarding the new tailing pond at Jajarajau and the upgrading of the Huaura processing plant.

A free internet café and a library were operated in Pampas for school children.

A sewing cooperative involving more than 25 women was set-up and financed by Malaga.

An annual Christmas party for more than 800 children from the local communities was organized.

Logistic support and building materials were made available in order to help build the new multipurpose community centre.
